Letnje filmske večeri pod zvezdama

Ove hitove ne smeš propustiti u našem letnjem bioskopu

Film enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the lineup of the unique open-air cinema held annually next to Galerija, the largest shopping center in the country and region, during this time of the year. We believe they will be delighted as the list for this summer includes nothing but hits. From the latest releases to Oscar winners and some classic blockbusters that can be watched "a hundred times," these films have been carefully selected to satisfy different tastes and generations.

Before selecting the screenings, we have some interesting facts about films that premiered this year or last year. It's a warm-up and a bit of homework to get you prepared for the opportunity to watch these films in a magical setting.

“Nedelja” on Saturday, with a meet-and-greet with the actors

The honor of opening the third Open Air Cinema powered by Superstar on June 15th goes to the film “Nedelja,” which depicts the life and musical career of one of the most beloved singers in this region, Džej Ramadanovski. Did you know that the main character, both as a boy and as an adult, is played by people who are not from the acting world? Despite being illiterate, young Alen Selimi did an excellent job in his role, while singer Husein Alijević Husa, who portrays the adult Džej, performed like a professional actor.

“Russian Consul” – the last role of a legendary actor

The following Saturday features a film that closed the 52nd FEST. Based on the novel of the same name by Vuk Drašković, the director describes the film as containing a humane message behind its “heavy story with an uncertain ending.” This film will also be remembered for the final role of the masterful Žarko Laušević, who not only acted but also contributed to writing the script.

“That’s All for Today” – the film that inspired letters

An atypical box office hit has climbed to the top of the viewership charts and attracted attention not only from audiences but also from many actors who creatively shared their impressions – through public letters. “It reminded me how much I love the people around me, and also how much I miss those who are no longer here,” actress Jovana Stojiljković wrote after watching. If this makes you want to come to Galerija on July 12th to see the film about one family, bring some tissues just in case – you might need them.

Barbie Mania continues

The film about the world’s most famous doll colored the entire year pink. It has become the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros. history, earning over $1.3 billion. The film brought great fame and income to the lead actress Margot Robbie, who was actually the third choice for the role. Comedian Amy Schumer dropped out in 2017, and Anne Hathaway was reportedly in talks to replace her, but the role ultimately went to the blue-eyed Australian. It will be shown in the green space near Galerija on June 14th, on the eve of the grand opening of the summer cinema.

Oppenheimer

Last year's biggest rival to the previous film. Unlike “Barbie,” which won only one Oscar out of eight nominations, Christopher Nolan's biographical thriller exploring the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the “father of the atomic bomb” and the leading scientist on the Manhattan Project, won seven Golden Statues. The film highlights key moments that shaped Oppenheimer’s fate and world history. Many don’t know it was filmed at authentic locations like Los Alamos in New Mexico. Don’t miss this masterpiece at the Open Air Cinema near Galerija on August 22nd.

In addition to these, movie lovers will be able to enjoy a total of 22 films on the big screen by the Sava River. The lineup includes old Hollywood hits like “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Star Wars,” and “The Notebook,” as well as numerous local titles worth seeing at least once more: “Kako je propao rokenrol”, “Povratak Otpisanih,” “Orlovi rano lete,” and last year's Serbian Oscar nominee – “Što se bore misli moje.”

All screenings start at 8:30 PM, and admission is free. To ensure the perfect outdoor movie-watching experience, it is recommended to install the Listen Everywhereapp for Android devices or Sennheiser MobileConnectfor iOS systems on your mobile phone and bring headphones for better sound quality.

The schedule is available on Galerija’s website (HERE) and in the app, so grab your calendar, mark the dates of your favorite screenings, and join us to enjoy warm summer evenings under the stars.
